3/8/2016 - Local Foods, Local Places Stakeholder Meetings, The Palace, 2008 Cumberland Ave
Local Foods, Local Places helps people create walkable, healthy, economically vibrant neighborhoods through the development of local food systems. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), EPA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), and the Delta Regional Authority (DRA), with support from the White House Rural Council.
Middlesboro is one of 27 communities in the US to receive technical assistance and funding to implement plans to put local foods at the center of our revitalization efforts. A public meeting and workshops will be held in March 2016 to develop these plans.
We successfully started this event in 2015. Over a dozen area businesses, organizations, and individuals competed for cash prizes in our first-ever Wing Fling. Participants enjoyed tasting wings and voting for the fan favorite. We hope to repeat the success of this event again in 2016.
